80th Anniversary of D-Day - Portraits of Heroes

Stories are everywhere at the National D-Day Memorial. You can find them in our poignant statues, meaningful artifacts, engaging tour guides, and directly from the valiant men and women who served on that fateful day and beyond. As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, it’s our duty to preserve these stories and share them for generations to come.

The Allied Forces of World War II wrote the most important story of the last century. As the world approaches the 80th anniversary of D-Day, it is still hard to conceive the epic scope of this decisive battle that foreshadowed the end of Hitler’s dream of Nazi domination.

When it was over, the Allied Forces had suffered nearly 10,000 casualties; some 4,400 were dead. Yet somehow, because of planning and preparation, and due to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied Forces, Fortress Europe had been breached.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024 the National D-Day Memorial will commemorate this historic liberation. Join the Memorial in recognizing the 80th anniversary of D-Day where their valor, fidelity, and sacrifice are honored every day

“Portraits of Heroes” will encompass photographic displays as an outdoor exhibit for visitors to walk through during the four-day anniversary commemoration. We are seeking photo submissions for this special tribute.

If your loved one served during the Normandy Campaign (between June 6 and August 31, 1944) we hope you will consider sending a digital copy of their photo for this tribute. For more information visit https://www.dday.org

All submissions must be received no later than 11:59:59 PM Eastern on Sunday, May 5th, 2024.
